Tuesday the 5th of November 2013 was a special day, especially for those suffering from cancer, or those going through chemotherapy in the Sydney area. The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Cancer Center was officially opened by the Prime Minister Tony Abbott, marking the completion of the journey began so many years ago by the inspirational man Chris O’ Brien, who proposed the cancer center as long ago as 2002.
Chris O’ Brien rose to the top of his chosen field of Oncology, and was a strong supporter of cancer sufferers. In 2006, Prof. O’ Brien received a diagnosis that set him on the path that has resulted in the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Cancer Center, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor that would ultimately claim his life in 2009.
The opening ceremony not only saw the PM, numerous politicians including the Minister for Health Jillian Skinner, Federal Health Minister Peter Dutton, and members of the press, but also Prof. O’Brien’s wife, Gail, and her children in attendance.
A little known fact was that the company entrusted with transport and logistics for the day was DeBlanco, a high end luxury car hire service with a fleet of luxury cars for the most special occasions.
